Kate's "No Shave November" Challenge
Men are generally at a significantly greater risk than women from nearly all of the common cancers that occur in both sexes, with the exception of breast cancer. Furthermore, despite a similar number of men developing prostate cancer, as women who develop breast cancer, men's cancer receives substantially less funding and awareness campaigning, than women's cancer. During the month of November, a number of men grow a moustache to raise funds for Movember (a portmanteau of the slang word "mo" for moustache and "November"), to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancers. As I believe male cancer awareness is as important as female cancer awareness, I am participating in my own no shaving/no waxing challenge, where I pledge not to shave for the entire month of November! Being a strong-minded person with a keen sense of humour, I am always able to laugh at myself, and don't mind doing something like this for a good cause. So, if I reach the target amount of £2000, I will continue the "no shave challenge" until December 31st, and thus continue to fundraise throughout December!! If you want a good laugh by seeing me make a total and utter hairy prat of myself, or if (like me!) you want to help find a cure and better treatments for a cruel disease, get DONATING NOW! I will even (reluctanty) post photographs of the progress... if I must. Just don't ask me to participate in a "no wash" challenge, because then I really will tell you where to go! Even if you only donate £1 or £2, it's better than nothing, especially if everyone gives something. Remember that the money goes straight to Cancer Research UK, and not via myself.
CAUSE
Men's cancers
Prostate, lung and bowel cancers account for more than half of all new cancer cases in men. Survival in bowel and prostate cancer is going up for men , but survival in lung cancer still lags behind survival for women . Help Cancer Research UK develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer to improve the outlook for men.
