Busking Cancer
Last updated: 23/11/2010
What is this project about?
Busking Cancer is an exciting new fundraising campaign that lets people combine a love of music with a passion for raising money for Cancer Research UK.
Using talent to help beat cancer, our supporters not only go busking on the street, but they also organise their own music events in an array of venues.
You can have your chance to join thousands of UK musicians and performers in raising vital funds to support live-saving research. Watch the video for some inspiration, and get started.

The overall principle is simple. Bands enjoy playing music and having fun, so why not raise money at the same time?
With patrons like Suggs, Rod Stewart and Newton Faulkner, and more importantly with the support of talented buskers across the UK, Busking Cancer has become a great way to support Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work.
Our supporters not only go busking on the street, but they also organise their own music events in an array of different venues from town halls to local parks – the choice is yours! By setting up a Giving Group, you can have your chance to join thousands of musicians and performers across the country in raising vital funds.

I'm really happy to be getting involved in Busking Cancer. I like the concept because it's so simple – play your music, raise money for such an important cause.
-- Newton Faulkner

I’m very excited about being part of such a great event. I’m passionate about what I do and love the idea of being part of something which is promoting grass roots music. The added bonus is being able to contribute to a worthwhile cause as well.
-- Jamie West, 24, Young Busker of the Year 2009/10

We had a fantastic time busking and would love to do it again. Thank you once again, it has been a pleasure supporting such a wonderful charity.

How do I get involved?
You have already done the hardest part – deciding that you are going to do it! Most of you will have already thought about which day and where you are likely to hold your busking event. So what now?
You'll want to set up a Giving Group page to help you organise your fundraising. You can upload photos and videos, and invite your friends and family to support you online if they can’t be there on the day.
Not only do you need to get your band, orchestra or act ready but you also need to secure your desired busking spot and make sure everyone knows that you are going to be Busking Cancer. You can use your group page and the address book on MyProjects to spread the word about your plans.
Once the chosen day is upon you – go busking. There is nothing like busking and drawing a crowd from the general public, and especially for a great cause. Whatever you end up raising, you’ll never forget the day you went busking and the real buzz every time someone decided to pop a coin into your guitar case.
After the event, use your group page to post videos from the day. It's a great way to share with those who may be far away and also remind them to sponsor you in your efforts.
The difference you can make
All of the funds raised for Busking Cancer are in aid of Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research.
Thanks to our supporters, we fund the work of over 4,000 research scientists, doctors and nurses throughout the UK who work tirelessly to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
Put your talent to work for a great cause – set up your page and start busking today.
Donate now and you can help support: Busking Cancer
