Catching breast cancer early Dr Jacqui Shaw at the University of Leicester is developing sophisticated new ways of detecting breast breast cancer cells hiding in the bloodstream. This is because cancers frequently 'shed' their DNA into the blood, and we can detect it through advanced technologies. If this technology could be used in the clinic, it would spare patients invasive and time consuming procedures such as biopsies, with a simple blood test being enough to identify the different types of the breast cancer. Dr Shaw's work will open doors to improved diagnosis and treatment, and could help match the right drugs to the specific type of breast cancer for each patient in the future. This groundbreaking research heralds an exciting new era of personalised medicine, and offers real hope to countless women in the future. The difference you can make We're leading the way towards an era of personalised medicine, aiming to improve the care of people with cancer and save many more lives. Please support our vital work and with your help we can save more lives and beat breast cancer sooner. £20,000 could cover the cost of a nurse and a qualified statistician for one year. Please donate now to support our vital work into this disease.
