Why Support Mum's Blanket?

Mum's Blanket

Woohoo it's finished! Yes 'mumsblanket' is complete. There'd been a couple of unexpected challenges - another 24 squares taking the total from 96 to 120 - and some rather troublesome trims. The original blanket looked a bit skimpy for a double, so another strip of 24 squares was required to get it to a nice comfortable size. The trims then needed tweaking to meet the new larger size and in a bit of an airheaded moment I chose to ignore the maths and go for a number of stitches plucked from the air. Unsurprisingly, the new trim had to be started again - a bit of a bother with 330 and 400 stitches a row! But with donations building up and a promise to get it finished by the 28th, I couldn't let you all down. After some marathon knitting, mumsblanket was back on track. The last trim was finished, the last square sewn in and the trims attached. It was done, but would it survive the washing machine? A very nervous hour or so and the blanket came out. Whole! and looking better than went in - what a relief! I want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who's supported the project. I've been humbled and amazed by people's generosity. That the total of the money raised now stands at over £1000 is a testatament to that. I never dreamed we would raise so much. You all deserve a round of applause and 'Well done!' I hope very much that the money will help towards this research and that the project that can really make a difference to lung cancer sufferers and in improving their prospects and quality of life, their families. The blanket's next role will be as a raffle gift for mum's local hospice the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust in Dorset. By Christmas it will have a new home. I hope its new owners can feel in the bobbles and lace that it's there to wrap around them and to hold them when they need comfort - just like a mum... Thanks everyone! The site will be up until the 1st December when the larger fundraising project finishes. If you haven't already, and feel inspired, please donate.
