A celebration of the life of Mark Coleman

My Story

Project Mustard At the end of 2010 our good friend and colleague Mark Coleman died of skin cancer. He left behind a wife and three children. Whilst the premature death of a friend or relative is never easy to come to terms with we did not want simply to focus on the inevitable sadness and loss felt by family and friends. We wanted to do something to celebrate Mark's life and, at the same time, to raise valuable funds for cancer research. Mark was always up for a challenge and he loved the party at the end. So, we dreamt up a mighty challenge and intend to have a big party - Project Mustard was born. The idea is pretty simple: three teams and a three pronged assault on Snowdon. Team 1: National 3 Peaks Starting at 4pm on Friday 10 June, a team of ten walkers, supported by four drivers, will attempt to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours. They will approach the summit of Snowdon from the East via the Pyg Track. Team 2: Welsh 3000s Starting on the top of Foel Fras at 4pm on Friday 10 June, two teams of four walkers, supported by two drivers are aiming to climb the 14 Welsh Peaks, over 3,000 feet, in 24 hours. They will approach the summit of Snowdon from the North East via Crib Goch. Team 3: Snowdon Starting at 11:30am on Saturday 11 June, an eclectic team of walkers, accompanied by a guide from the YHA, will climb Snowdon from the West using the Ranger Path. After meeting at the summit, the three teams will join together at the campsite at Llyn Gwynant to celebrate their achievements. When first canvassing support for Project Mustard, it soon became clear that, when it comes to cancer, pretty much everyone has a story to tell. Many are ultimately sad but there are a growing number of happy outcomes. In remembering Mark and celebrating his life we also want to do what we can to help Cancer Research UK and – we feel sure – help improve the chances of more happy outcomes in the future. We hope that you feel able to give us your support. Thank you!
