Michelle Hayward racing to beat Bowel Cancer

let's win the race against Cancer

Michelle Hayward racing to beat Bowel Cancer

After 18 months of being told I had IBS, I was finally diagnosed with bowel cancer, January 2012. Scans showed a large tumour in my colon, and spots on my liver. In february I had keyhole surgery, and hoped that the cancer was contained. 6 weeks recovery, and further liver scans scheduled.....the painful wait. Biopsies and analysis brought fantastic news that the cancer cells had not spread into the lymph nodes or blood vessels. April, after repeat scans on the liver I was given the all clear, with no need to undergo chemo treatment.

We play the waiting and hoping game now. And pray that it has gone forever. Scans due again next February.

Beating cancer is a race we can win, together. I was very fortunate, and caught it early enough before it had spread to other areas of the body. Many others are not so lucky.

1 in 3 of us will be diagnosed during our life, and the majority of us, will lose someone we love to cancer. Help us support the fantastic work of scientists and surgeons, in understanding how and why it spreads, and developing life saving medical techniques.

To show my support and to raise awareness about the terrible disease I am racing in the Clubmans Championship this year, and will be participating in a number of other fundraising events. Visit my website to see up to date race results and information and join our racing against cancer team.
