I have chosen to run the Brighton half marathon to raise money for Cancer research. Lots of us are affected by someone close to us having gone through Cancer treatment at some point in our lives. It is the hardest thing to witness. Someone very close to me is currently suffering from Mesothelioma, which is Cancer caused by Asbestos exposure. There is currently no cure for this type of cancer. Every time I run I think of those affected by this & other forms of Cancer & it spurs me onto run further. Researchers at our Southampton Centre are leading the world in developing and testing potential new 'immunotherapies' for cancer patients. This exciting approach aims to use the power of the body's own immune system to target and destroy cancer cells. Professor Tim Elliott is making fundamental discoveries about how our immune system works that will aid the design of effective new treatments to improve survival for people with cancer. Maybe this will help beat cancers such as Mesothelioma in the future.
