Let's Beat Malignant Melanoma Together

UPDATE!
Most of the same crew that ran the 2009 Dublin Marathon will be running the 2010 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC in support of Cancer Research UK and Professor Mark Middleton's skin cancer research project.
Barry Keane (Edinburgh), Robert Dunn (Edinburgh), Chris Meyers (Washington, DC), Cory Angerthal (New York), Vicky Angerthal (New York), Jennifer Opelt Klehr (New York), and I (London) will run the Marine Corps Marathon, coming up on 31 October 2010 in Washington to help the cause.
This will be especially cool for me, as I'll be running this almost 20 years to the day after my first marathon -- the 1990 Marine Corps Marathon -- where as a 19 year old sophomore at the US Naval Academy I came in 35th in the race and ran 2:39. I won't run that fast this time, but 3 hours is still the goal!

I was diagnosed with high risk malignant melanoma in 2009, and I am currently fighting to beat it. The incidence of malignant melanoma is rising more rapidly than any other type of cancer. There is still a tremendous amount that is unknown as to the causes, prevention, the spreading of the disease in the body, and new methods of treatment and possible cures.
Please join me in raising money to fund specific research into skin cancer by Cancer Research UK. An extraordinary group of family and friends joined me last October to run the 2009 Dublin Marathon: Cory Angerthal, Barry Keane, Lizzie Keane, Simon McGeough, Brian Johnston, Devan Marshall, Chris Meyers, and Robert Dunn. I'm excited to do it all again.
My chin is up and I am staying very positive. I know I am going to beat this, and together we can all make a difference in beating malignant melanoma altogether.

P.S. Please note that you can also donate by charity cheque if you prefer. Please make the cheque out to "Cancer Research UK". I will be collecting all the cheques and forwarding to Cancer Research UK with a covering letter advising these are restricted funding in support of Professor Middleton's project. Please also explore Employer Matching wherever possible. Many thanks again.
