LETS HELP PREVENT CERVICAL CANCER
After being diagnosed with cervical cancer in December 2013 I felt as though my world fell apart. Luckily for me my cancer was caught early enough to be fully treated, which shows the importance of going for a cervical smear test when it is due. In January 2014 I was booked into hospital to get this horrible thing out my body. I had to have a "radical hyterectomy" whch meant that my cervix, womb, both ovaries, both falopian tubes, 1/3 of my vagina and pelvic lymph nodes all had to be removed. It was major surgery and knowing I couldn't have anymore kids, not that I was planning on anymore as already have 5, but being told you cant was strange, made me feel less womanly in a way. After it sunk in I realised it was a very small price to pay to be able to say "I beat cancer". I am currently in the process of receiving 5 weeks of radiotherapy, along with 1 day of chemotherapy during those 5 weeks. Towards the end of the 5 weeks I have to have a few sessions of brachytherapy which is internal radiotherapy. All this treatment is only a precaution to make sure cancer cant come back anywhere else in my body and was an optional decision made by myself as I never ever want to go through what I have ever again. Looking forward to the end of treatment and spending the rest of my life with my amazing husband Darren who has been my rock through all of this, wouldnt have got through it without him, also looking forward to watching my 5 gorgeous babies grow up. A chance I may not have had if my cancer wasn't caught early.
