Kate Guthrie

My Story

Kate Guthrie was just 16 months old when she was diagnosed with a rhabdomyosarcoma. She underwent two major surgeries, massive amounts of chemo and radiotherapy but at no stage did she lose her beautiful smile and the ability to make people laugh. Since Kate's death in 1994, her family have worked alongside CR-UK in trying to find out why sarcomas occur. Over the past four years her family and friends have raised £189k to fund four research projects in Kate's memory. This latest project will allow Dr Nischalan Pillay to study the genetic profile of sarcoma to see if he can work out which genetic clues will inform doctors of the best course of treatment for a patient. This research will cost £40,000. We aim to raise this money by the end of 2016 to allow Dr Pillay to start his research. Please help us to ensure that one day no lives will be lost to sarcoma. Thank you. x

CAUSE

Genetic clues of sarcoma

Soft tissue sarcomas are cancers that develop from the cells of tissue such as fat, muscle, nerves and blood vessels. Dr Nischalan Pillay is studying sarcomas to identify genetic clues that might inform doctors of the best course of treatment. His approach could help more people beat their cancer sooner.
