Help us support bowel cancer research

My Story

Thank you for visiting our team fundraising page for Cancer Research UK. We are running the Ealing Half Marathon on Sunday 27th of September, to raise money in support of bowel cancer research in memory and honour of our beloved grandad, Phieu Pham. Four months before his 90th birthday, our grandad lost his battle against bowel cancer in July 2015. With 5 sons, 4 daughters and 28 grandchildren, he was at the heart of the family and an inspirational figure to all of us. We have seen first-hand the devastating impact of this terrible disease. Bowel cancer is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death in the UK, with 16,000 deaths a year. We chose this project because early detection of bowel cancel is vital to increasing chances of survival. Many diagnoses happen at an advanced stage once symptoms are noticeable as the tumour has started to spread.  At this stage, survival rates past 5 years decrease to 7%, compared to 97% if the cancer is detected at the earliest possible stage. This is our contribution to help fund this research which aims to identify genetic causes of cancer. We hope that you will join us in supporting this cause so that one day, other people will not have to suffer the impact of this awful disease. Thank you for your donation, Anne Pham, Keith Pham, Mary Pham, Jenny Pham, Sarah Pham, Ling Pham, William Pham, Terry Hua, Katy Hua, Lindsey Hua, Duc Ha, Will Yau, Timothy Le

CAUSE

Genetic clues of bowel cancer

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, with over 41,000 people diagnosed every year. Professor Malcolm Dunlop is comparing the genetics of people with bowel cancer to healthy people to identify the culprit genes. His results could help us detect bowel cancer earlier, when treatment is more likely to be successful.
