What is Esophagus/Oesophagus cancer?
Cancer of the esophagus develops as a result of cell changes in the lining of the esophagus.
There are two main types of cancer of the esophagus: squamous carcinoma, which is more common at the upper end of the gullet, and adenocarcinoma, which is more common at the lower end, particularly around the junction between the gullet and the stomach. Esophagus cancer is a very painful a and it causes pain when people swallow foods and drink.
Each year, almost 8,000 people are diagnosed with the disease in the UK alone - that's around 150 people each week.
The reason I'm doing this
My grandad was diagnosed with esophagus cancer in 2009 and had an operation which worked to removed the cancer first time round, but then after a while the cancer came back in 2010 and we discovered that the cancer is now terminal and he cannot undergo surgery again as it would be too dangerous. He recently had 3 week blocks of chemotherapy which caused him to lose his hair and feel very depressed, ill and down but we thought if it's stopping the cancer spreading it must be worth it. We have recently found out that after all that, the chemotherapy hadn't worked for him which means that the cancer is still spreading. I will be donating to this too with the money I make from fundraising activities ect. All money donated will go towards improving treatment for Esophagus cancer which would mean that in the future the treatment for Esophagus cancer will be better and will possibly help many people to live longer or to even cure the cancer at it's early stages.
PS. if you can't donate or don't want to donate, could you please press the like button to the right hand side for facebook and possibly spead the page around, thankyou.
