Kev's Legacy

My Story

With our previous project reaching its £70,000 target, we are now raising money for this new project to find more effective treatments, keep up the great work everyone, KCA!! Thank you to everybody who has supported us through the one, two and three thousand pound targets within our first five months, Kev would be incredibly proud and humbled, and the money raised will make a real difference to oesophageal cancer patients and their families. KCA! In 2012 Kev was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer, as a dedicated time trial cyclist, ironman triathlete, sports lecturer and all round fitness fanatic the diagnosis was completely out of the blue and his lifestyle went against all the usual causes of the disease! A happy family man and a true pillar of strength he accepted his devastating diagnosis head on and spent the next few months raising awareness, and funds for charity, climbing 3 French Alps on his cycle only days after finishing chemo! Despite this fierce battle cancer claimed him a few weeks later, only 10 months after he was diagnosed, oesophageal cancer has a tendancy to do that, it takes hold and it doesn't want to let go. Although Chemo helped him stay with his family longer it was an horrendous experience and the position of the tumour makes side effects like nausea intolerable. Kev has been labelled as inspirational by everyone that knew him and has been awarded the "Inspiration In Sport" award at the West Norfolk Sports Awards this year, help us use that inspiration to try and make other peoples treatment more bearable and save lives.

CAUSE

David Cunningham (Oesophageal cancer)

Oesophageal cancer rates are rising in the UK, and it's one of the hardest cancers to treat. Professor David Cunningham from the Royal Marsden Hospital in London is testing whether a new drug, bevacizumab, can be given with chemotherapy and surgery to improve survival for patients with this type of cancer.
