One More for May!!!

My Story

I'm running to support the Bobby Moore Fund which is a charity aimed at research into bowel cancer. I'm going to have a go at running the Endurancelife Winter Coastal Trail Series. This will be 4 off road marathons in 3 months that go over some of the biggest hills on the UK coast. As fell runs they are all rated between severe and extreme! I started supporting this charity 2 years ago after my brother in law, Jimmy McManus was diagnosed with cancer. The very sad news is that I'm going to have to complete this challenge in memory of him. Please help me make all the effort worthwhile. I'll keep this page updated with how I get on. Thanks Jim ****UPDATE**** I've just completed the first marathon in Anglesea after a poor month of training with an injured knee. It was definatly a lot tougher than I imagined and the stronge winds, rain and being freezing cold didn't help. There was very nearly a few man tears going up Holyhead mountain for the second time after 25 miles but I managed to complete it in 5.44hrs. ****UPDATE No2**** South Devon completed and that was a grueller!! I completed it in 5.43hrs but I consider that an improvement as it was a lot harder than Anglesey. Going to enjoy 4 days without running now before training starts for the next one! ****UPDATE No3**** South Sussex completed in 5.44hrs across Beach Head and the Seven Sisters. This was very tough and I felt completely exhuasted. I'm trying to work out whether it was harder than the others or I'm just getting progressively more tired. Really looking forward to having more than a 3 day break from running! ***UPDATE 4*** Exmoor was by far the toughest of them all and thoroughly deserved an 'extreme' rating. That said it was also the most beautiful course and the one I think I enjoyed the most. I felt fitter for this one and met some amazing people. *****One More For May***** I've decided to add one more to this challenge so on the 12th May I'm going to have a go the Brecon Ultra. It's a 40 mile mountain marathon that goes from the bottom to the top of the Brecon Beacons 3 times. I'm thinking I'll be ready for a break after this one!! Cheers all

Genetic clues of bowel cancer

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, with over 41,000 people diagnosed every year. Professor Malcolm Dunlop is comparing the genetics of people with bowel cancer to healthy people to identify the culprit genes. His results could help us detect bowel cancer earlier, when treatment is more likely to be successful.
