5K Muddy Run 2016
We will be participating in the 5K Muddy Run on the 17th July 2016. This is to raise funds for pancreatic cancer treatment. Unfortunately, pancreatic cancer is poorly researched and it is incredibly difficult to diagnose and treat. This project is one way to change that. This money will be used in a variety of ways to help those who have been diagnosed with this disease. It will help to fund groundbreaking research that will be used to develop more treatment options for cancer patients. This fundraising activity is also to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. Prior to my father being diagnosed, I had little to no knowledge of this particular type of cancer. The symptoms for this type of cancer are easily mistaken for other illnesses. Myself (Hannah Burke), and my sister Megan Burke, and all of our friends (Lucy Richards, Ruth Rotherham, Abby McCarthy, Charlotte Arkley, Ellie Radcliffe, Lucy Shaylor, Ailysha Carr, Nadia Aston-Deaville, Melanie Gibson, Beth Higginson, Katy Halliday) will be running. Survival rates for pancreatic cancer remain stubbornly low in the UK, often because the disease is diagnosed late and is difficult to treat. Help Cancer Research UK make progress in one of the biggest research challenges its scientists are facing – to find better ways to detect and treat the disease.
